cheapest eye test

Please can someone tell me the cheapest opticians to have my eyes tested. I don't want to buy glasses from them because I want to do that online.

Optical express have a free eye test voucher on their website until 8th March, I used one on Monday, no problem, no cost.

I have also seen another poster, thanks to Jaymac, giving details on MSE of a free eyetest voucher in Prima magazine for Dolland and Aitchison, PRIMA, Dont know how much the magazine costs, not my type

i have recently had an eye test in Specsavers and that was £18-cheapest as I had phoned five other opticians within the locality.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I have booked me, my mum, and my wife in for tests this coming tuesday with optical express. I am only hoping that they will give us the results of the test to use online to buy cheaper specs. I looked at the voucher that Happychappy has kindly supplied and it does not say anything on it about having to use them for specs if you use the free voucher, lets hope it works?

Did you buy specs else where Happychappy, did they supply you with the prescription?

For anyone that is interested a friend of mine buys specs from www.specs4less.co.uk , somone else has told me that there is also a good retailer for specs on ebay (not sure of the name). Anyway, thank you everyone for all your help, saved me loads of time and effort looking. I will let you know if I am succesfull

Yes I was given the full prescription which I have sent off for some glasses from goggles4u.com I used them a couple of years ago and found them to be quick, spot on with quality and price. I asked the optician at Optical Express for the pd or pupil distance as he didnt write it on, he measured this and wrote it down, so yes a very thorough eye test and full prescription to go where you want ?

Thought I would update you all with the progress. My family and I visited optical express this evening in meadowhall, Sheffield. When we walked in, there was a poster that said free eye test when you purchase their glasses. Knowing full well I wanted to purchase online, I didn’t panic and proceeded with the eye test. At the end of the test they tried to push a pair of glasses on me but I told them that I didn’t want to make a rash decision so could I have my prescription. At firs they wanted to charge me £15, because I was not buying their glasses. I showed them the vouchers that I printed from their web site, and explained that it did not say anything on the vouchers about using them for glasses. Apparently if you use the vouchers that can be downloaded from the optical express web site then it is free and they will give you your prescription, you must take in the vouchers. Also I was informed that they are not obliged to give you the pupil distance measurement. I asked politely and they did. I have already used the web site that happychappy suggested www.goggles4u.com to by a pair of glasses. They cost $25.99 USD and at check out I entered the voucher code Glasses for a 5% discount, so a grand total of £12.59. The glasses look good too. If you use the goggles4u web site make sure that you download their measurement template first to get the frame sizes right. I will let you know the quality once received. The only cost involved is buying Prima usually £2.50, however if you purchase it in Morrisons it is only £1.50. The T&Cs are:- 1. Valid until 30th August 2008 2.
