i need a little bit of help with my tax for the year 2005/2006 i stop working in aug 2005, so i worked from april to to aug 2005 that year, 3 weeks before i left a new company took over, and i only earned just over £400
and the company before that i wasnt earning that much as i was only working part time, for that year i have just found out my tax code was just over £4000, which i wouldnt have earned, and on my p45 from the company i only worked for, for 3 weeks they havent filled in the bit about the tax being paid, now i would have earned over £4000 that year, now what i need to know is
would i have paid tax from £0 or would i only pay tax when its gets to £4000?

anyway i hope this all makes sense and thanks you to anyone that can help me

Your annual tax free allowance is divided into 12 (assuming you are monthly paid) and each 12th is deducted from your monthly salary, then tax tax is deducted from the result at 10% and 22%.
If you didnt work or claim JSA after Aug 05, I think you will be due a refund and I suggest you write to your tax office (or call in), telling them you havnt worked or claimed since then and ask for a refund.

If it says 0 in the tax box then you didnt pay any tax so there will be nothing to reclaim!

I think the quickest solution would be to ring the tax office and ask them whether you paid any tax at the previous job.
