Buying a kilt!

My DH has been invited to 1 wedding already this year and my brother is getting married next March, so we are thinking it might be a better investment in the long run to buy a kilt package rather than hire for each ocasion at £50/60 a time. DOes anyone have any pointers of doing this cheaply? Is there a time of year when they are cheaper lol? ! Any suggestions of places to try? Thanks for your help!

well you can get ex rentals from a lot of the hire shops for a discount.
perhaps contact your local place to ask when they sell off old stock.

My DH's was made by Clan Albanach who were in South Queensferry, it was superbly made, cost around £500 for the whole package, this was around 7 years ago, though. I'm not sure if they're still in business, did a quick Google and couldn't find the website.

Funnily enough I tried to phone them on Friday and the number is no longer is use, so I'd say no.

Friend bought one of the Lidl ones a few weeks ago for her son and was/is pleased with it but they ran out pretty quick, however, he bought the sporran, belt etc on Ebay from a company in Northumberland and was very pleased with them and very reasonably priced compared to the "tourist" shops.

i got my brother kilt, belt, sporran from ebay, bargain price for all of them. kilt was not best quality but only used for the football oops sorry fitba.

i did buy my own from a reputable maker and cost about £720 beware of these packages it depends on the prices of all the other bits and pieces.

  • We bought a ful rig out a couple of years ago as it was costing too much for all the weddings we were going to. We bought at Slaters Menswear and it cost us just over £600 for the full thing - kilt, jacket, waistcoat, shirt, socks, flashes, sporran, shoes, belt, dickie bow etc etc (dont think I forgot anything).
Beware of cheap items as you will just have to replace them in the short term never mind the long term. My OH wears his get up for just about everything (swapping full outfit for the jacobite shirt sometimes) including weddings, 21sts, 40ths, 50ths, saves on buying new trousers and shirts every time!!!

Splash out, spend the money on the best you can afford, it will be a saving in the long term and we certainly dont regret it for a moment.
