Money From Abroad

I work in Australia but live in the UK (6 weeks on, 6 off..) I'm paid by an Australian company into my UK (Lloyds) bank account. When the money goes in the exchange rate used is never as good as the rates published on sites such as x-rates.com etc. Does anyone know if banks such as Lloyds add some kind of loading fee, they already charge between £7 and £20 on top of the exchange rate every time money's paid in. But then I lose around £250 on the rates not being as good, which equates to over £1000 a year. I'm currently overseas and lloyds won't give me an answer over the phone.

Does anyone have any experience in this and know a better bank or building sociey to use?

Why not have a word with their Overseas club people ( see the website) to see what they can suggest, perhaps opening a foreign currency account for you etc.
