In my opinion you have some high amounts there. £100 per month for car maint. thats £1200 a year and enough to BUY a car never mind maintain it.
Your car tax adds up to £408 per year yet tax is £180 tops. (£360 per year for x 2 cars) Hairdressing is above average, ditto,housekeeping/petrol/phone.
That said your electricity is very low..but as i said, this is only my opinion.
Edit: Beat me to it WDIAG.The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

Hi there, thanks all for your feedback - I'll go through each thing that I think has come up....tigerfeet2006 wrote: »Dingdangdo's SOA is here. I've copied it into this post:

OR has allowed £50 for landline and £15 for OH phone due to working weird shifts.
GYM £ 40.00 exercise on prescription this has been explained on the other thread
We have provided docs note and this is cost of exercise on prescription. I am currently on antidepressants and seeing a psychologist. Gym keeps me sane (ish)
GAS £ 44.00
ELECTRICITY £ 30.00 - This is the actual amount we pay per month and OR has had evidence.
TV LICENCE £ 12.00
HOUSE INS £ 22.24
LIFE INS £ 65.00 Is there a redemption value on this?
No redemption, its life ins/mortgage protection - strangely the OR has never commented on this?
CAR INS £ 27.78
PRESCRIPTIONS £ 15.00
MORTGAGE £ 701.00
OPTICAL X 2 £ 70.00 this has been explained on the other thread
Awkward prescriptions - evidence sent to OR. We accept it is high but is the true cost unfortunately.
CAR INS £ 28.00
STUDENT LOAN £ 150.00 standard monthly amount
PETROL £ 180.00
OH commutes a lot unfortunately, works in various locations and no other option but to drive due to times of day.
FOOD / HOUSEHOLD £ 399.00 £350 would have been better
This includes £20 for the cat! OR agreed to £379 household.
HOLIDAY £ 60.00 £40 is usually the norm
We must be lucky here then!
HOUSE MAINT £ 45.00
CAR MAINT £ 100.00 I missed this last time
it is quite high
OR allows £50 per car - this hasn't been questions apart from the fact they want us to lose one car. How much would you suggest is reasonable??
CAR TAX £ 34.00 again missed it last time
too hgh
Sorry it should be £30pm shouldn't it - not sure where I got £34 from? May have even been the OR?!
DENTIST £ 15.00
HAIRDRESSERS £ 25.00 max £15 (£10 ladies, £5 gents)
CLOTHES £ 60.00 could be upped £100
OR would not allow any more than the £60 - I doubt they would allow us more?

DRY CLEANING £ 10.00

Hope that helps. Worried now that we shouldn't push the OR on this, although the bottom line is still that this is what our outgoings are. Only way they would change is if we lose a car - just don't know how we could possibly do that though. We need them.0 -
To be honest your allowances do seem relatively generous to me - I had a difficult OR too so I sympathise, but be prepared for any eventuality.BCSC Member 70:j

Dingdangdo, looking at your SOA, I can see why it's so difficult for you to decide what to do. On the one hand, as Neko says, your allowances seem quite good, so some might say not to fight the OR on the IPA amount & get rid of one of the cars to enable you to pay it. On the other hand, the thing that seems to be the biggest issue with the OR is your cars, but if you genuinely need both of them then you need them & you can't magic money out of thin air otherwise you'd have done it ages ago.

In your position, given all the wrangling that's already gone on, I think I'd let the matter go to court. If the OR was going to change his mind, I think he'd have done it by now. If the case goes to court, it will be brought to a conclusion one way or the other, because the OR will have to justify his case, & you'll have a chance to state your position too. There's no guarantee that the decision will go your way (the judge may well say you have to get rid of one of the cars), but at least the matter will be over, & I suspect it's the chopping & changing that's got to you as much as the amount being asked for. Good luck.

Yeah the SOA generally isn't too bad - well if the OR would stop changing his/her mind anyway. Its things like the gym, which is a luxury in some ways - I'm taking it for granted honestly, its the fact that it was agreed as allowable so long as we sent evidence from the doc - we did this and then another officer has said no unless its on exercise on prescription, so we agreed to this and then a different has said no altogether. The same problem with the optical bills, agreed so long as evidence provided, we did this (prescriptions stating that we both require two different prescriptions each) and they are now saying that its too high, you can only have 25/30 quid between you. But we have got to incurr the cost. OR is also refusing to acknowledge the Student Loan repayments, OH has £1000 arrears with a DCA and they want a payment made towards that and for him to start making contributions as per Student Loan guidelines. The OR keeps saying 'student loans cannot be included in BR' but it has to come from somewhere. My SL comes out of my salary and they are fine with that but because OH will have to manually make payments they are refusing to allow it in SOA.
Finally, the cars, if we could lose one we would but OH has to use his to commute and I need mine for family commitments and because I am trying to find a new job and everything I apply for requests that I need a car for the position. If I lose my car I am basically going to struggle to find anything. My car is relatively cheap to run and worth £400. The reason the OR gives for not exempting it is that it is registered in OH's name along with the other car. That was just circumstance, if we had had a crystal ball 4 years ago I would have put in my name but we never thought we would end up here.0 -
Just becaue both cars are registered to your other half means nothing, its who owns them that counts, whos name is on the bill of sale, and how was the purchase funded?Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….

Ahh, well all of the above is in OH's name. He collected, paid for and registered car in his name. Where does this leave us?0 -
When you say paid for, from where?, if it was a joint account that both of you put money in you may be able to claim you paid for one therfore your OH doesnt own both, its a long shot but..........Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….
