We are looking for someone who refuses to spend money on branded cleaning products and prefers to use every day items such as Vinegar and Bicarb of Soda. Do you have some great thrifty tips that you could share with other moneysavers?

I have loads....I hate the price of stuff in the shops and it pays to look in your cupboard a scoop of bicarb and a cup of vinegar are great for stopping your kitchen sink drain plug hole thingy from 1 smelling and 2 inblocking leave over night if poss and then pour a kettle of boiling water down it first thing...:Dalthough I would love to go on the program I mean who wouldn't but poor health at the moment prevails me from doing so...although I love the program watch it every week....

Draw all curtains and blinds at dusk-even in rooms you are not using...
Don't underestimate the insulating properties of curtains, especially heavy-lined ones...
Fit Kitchen foil or special radiator foil behind radiators on the walls to reflect heat back into rooms, and make them warmer...
Fill any gaps between floorboards with strips of draught-excluder before laying carpets...
If there's a risk of frost put a spoonful of cooking salt down drains last thing at night to prevent them freezing...
Shelves fitted above radiators help to deflect the heat back into the room.
these are particularly good where radiators are situated under windows...
Ordinary brown wrapping paper, cut to fit, and placed on top of insoles, makes shoes feel cosier..

To clear a blocked shower spray, unscrew the rose and soak it in vinegar overnight...
Save your fingers when hammering in a short nail by holding the nail with eyebrow tweezers...
Rub hinges with a soft lead pencil or petroluem jelly and they will stop creaking...also works with a spray of furniture polish...
Use a chunk of white bread to remove finger marks from wallpaper or to freshen fabric lampshades. Work above a newspaper to catch crumbs...
If a wool carpet has been dented with heavy furniture, place an ice cube or 1 tablespoon water in each dent, when dry, vacuum thoroughtly and the pile will spring up like new...
The safest way to clean fragile ornaments is to put on a cheap pair of cotton gloves, available from chemists, and dust the ornament with your finger, that way you get into every little corner...
Avoid getting specks of paint on spectacles by covering then with clingfilm before starting...:D

To clean the green residue from th bottom of a glass vase, fill with a solution of biological washing powder or liquid and water, then leave to soak. Afew drops of ammonia added to the rinsing water makes the glass really shine...
make oven cleaning a lighter chore by soaking all removable parts in biological detergent overnight-then the deposits can be cleaned off easily the next day...
To brighten faded colours in an old carpet, after vacuuming, rub over the surface with a cloth squeezed out in a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water...
A mixture of salt, cornflour and oatmeal sprinkled on to fitted carpets and left for 2 hours before being vacuumed off, freshens and brightens the carpet. Be sure to remove all traces of salt...
Use an old shoulder bag for carrying houldhold cleaning materials from room to room. This is great help when working up a ladder..
Inside the door of the attic keep a list of articles stored there. Remember the additions and score off any items taken down...:D

Yellowing wood can be whitened by soaking in a solution of 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts water...
Sprinkle a grease stain on a non-washable fabric with talcum powder and leave for afew hours. Brush off and apply dry cleaning fluid, following instructions to remove completely...
Soak discoloured sponges in 1 pint of warm water containing the juice of a lemon for an hour. Rinse well in clear water...
Clean a vacuum flask/ teapot/ etc by dropping a couple of denture cleaning tablets into it and filling with hot water. Leave overnight and in the morning you will have a sparkling clean flask/teapot/etc...

Mildew on shower curtains can be removed by soaking the curtain in a solution of 1 part household bleach to 4 parts water, rinse, then machine or hand wash according to instructions...
To clean grouting between tiles use an old, clean toothbrush and mix a solution of 1 part bicarbonate of soda to 6 parts cold water...
To clean off soap splashes wipe with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts water, rinse and dry...

I learned most of these tips from the people's friend in the 90's but I think kim and aggi use tips like this as well...might be worth a look on there website or get them on the show....I love kim and aggie....:D

if your lucky enough to have furniture that is made out of real wood and not this mdf covered stuff...then use lord sherindans furniture wax once a year apply with 1 clothe rub off and buff with another...then all you need to do is go over it with a duster once aweek /fortnight/month whenever you like to get any dust off and the furniture still gleams like newly polished...:D

instead of buying these produces to put in your washer like calgol...one scoop of bicarbonate of sode or some sode crystals and one cup of vinegar on a boil wash once a month should keep the pipes clean of limescale and the washer running spot on...:D
