Not that I am showing off to you pack of peasants but we have a cleaner, a cook, a washing lady - who also does the ironing, a window cleaner and a decorator ... I was that impressed I ended up marrying her

    ... runs for cover .... :D:D

I do all my cleaning myself - not through choice (I absolutely hate it!) or lack of funds to pay for a cleaner, it's just that I've been through about 5 and then gave up. The first month they always seem to do a great job, after that I wonder what they do for 3 hours?!

Any ideas on where to find a good 'un?

I spend £20 per week on a cleaner who does the ironing, cleans 2 bathrooms and a cloakroom and hoovers and dusts the rest of the house.(About 3 hours work) She will do other jobs by arrangement, eg cleaning the panels in the conservatory. It works out as money well spent because if I spend all weekend cleaning I don't get a chance to spend quality time with my family.

How is 3 hours work "all weekend"???

    Recommendation is always good.
Make a list of what you want done (see other posts and be realistic), don't treat her/him like a servant!

When I had my 3rd child (and had therefore 3 under 4yrs old) and my OH worked very long hours as he was self employed; he arranged for a cleaner to come in twice a week for 2hrs a time. I had her for about a 6 months and after that I back to normal (!) and didn't need any help. I really appreciated it (and was more than a little amazed that he'd thought of it ;) )

Regarding h/w I'm in the 'keep things tidy, do a bit every day, put bleach in loos every night and keep the clutter to a minimum' camp :D Works for me although I know it wouldn't suit everyone!

I can't just hoover and dust I always find 25 other jobs that have to be done, cleaning out cupboards etc. I think it's money well spent and my cleaner has worked for me since 1995 so she must think it's OK too.

We pay £12 / hr for hours... it does sound ridiculous, but actually works out cheaper than other agency cleaners we've used, who charged £6/hr plus an agency fee. The agencies sent round some random 'vetted' cleaners, who always swore they needed 3 hrs to clean the house. The first stole from us; the second hardly did anything in the 3 hrs; the 3rd didnt seem to be able to get up and down the stairs... The agency are like a whirlwind when they come. They zap the house in 2 hours, and if they finish early, look for other little jobs that need done (e.g. clean windows). they do a good enough job that we only need them once every 2 weeks.
We just dont have the time to do tidying and cleaning, so this has become a necessity for us, especially since our 10-mth-old has decided to eat anything she finds on the floor...

    xx
