I never got on with the prescribed iron tabs, the caused more probs than they solved.
I took floradix liquid iron formula.

I've had weekly, then monthly B12 injections for ME/CFS, which helped for a while.

Can you talk it through with another GP at the practice?

it can be important to check out for other deficiencies.
I was subsequently found to have Vit D and calcium def.

Just a thought to add- if you're upping your breakfast cereals and dried fruit intake - make sure you drink lots of water, the sudden increase in fibre can cause constipation if you don't.
  • after years of feeling exhausted, short tempered, and unable to concentrate not to mention the never ending colds and things i picked up as a result of low immunity, i had bloods done which said my iron count was 6 and my blood platelets were low also.

GP advised that i start on microgynon to ease my periods. i typically have a 4-5day bleed, but is only really heavy on day 1 and 2 with a lot of clotting. and to add things like spinach and more red meat to my diet and have my bloods redone in 3 months.

however i have started on FLoradix last week, and endeavoured the past 3-4 weeks to include more iron rich foods in my diet like spinach fruit veg orange juice and generally quite healthy food but i still feel terrrrrrible

is there anything else i can do i am getting quite concerned that i have had this for so many years undiagnosed and have literally felt at breaking point for at least 3 years!? i am open to any suggestions!

even worse there is so much info out there on the net that conflcts- one minute spinach is good, then its not, i mustnt drink tea 2 hours either side of th floradix, and i can drink about 10 cups a day but guess that is not helping so i am trying to reduce this and currently i am drinking about 5!

When I was anaemic after losing a lot of blood during ds1's birth I was advised by the docs to drink lots of Guiness and eat lots of dark chocolate:D it was tough, but I managed.

I was also strongly advised to have a blood transfusion which I refused (stupid I know). As a consequence I made sure I ate loads of red meat and liver, greens and orange juice (as well as the Guiness and choc). It did the trick.

I am posting here as I dont feel there is a need to start new thread.

I have for some time been very depressed/lethargic to the point of very little interest in life. As Austin Powers would say "I have lost my mojo"

I have also experienced some rather irritating nerve sensations like a tooth ache running through various parts of the body.

I was diaganosed with B12 deficiency but not the anemia. I have been on the injections for just a week having today my 3rd.

A couple of days after these injections I have experienced extremly POOR sleep I am wide awake at 3am plus and during what little sleep I have I am experiencing nightmares for the first time in life. So intense that I awake screaming.

My tiredness has increased (lack of sleep?) and the aches muscular pains in my calfs and thighs have increased.

The Doc now wants to check my kidneys...........anybody else had or know of the experience?
    The years starts today ....

You'll have to see how the tests pan out - one of my kidneys functions at 23% - the other works perfectly, the only 'effects' as it were is that I tire easily and feel the cold! I'm also borderline aneamic so make sure I eat a balanced healthy diet (that does include dark chocolate and guiness!). Really that is the only thing you can do, there's normally no 'magic' food, be aware of what you eat and make sure it's not carp and drink alcohol moderately (or not at all probably - but a girl's gotta have a vice :o )

My thing is - eat well and enjoy life! I have carp days - but I make sure I rest and the next day I'm much better!

I was diagnosed with anaemia about 6 months ago. The doctor didnt really give me any advice with my diet but put me on iron tablets. The only thing he did say was to take them with a glass of orange juice as it aids absorbtion. He told me to take them not when i take my thyroxine as it blocks the absorbtion of the thyroxine.

Ive been on them 6 months now and i do feel better for taking them but only felt the benefits of them about a month ago though.

Maybe you could make another appointment with the doc or at least see your practice nurse about your diet.

I wanted to second the post about spatone water. After reading about it on here I got some and am taking it daily mixed with a little fresh Orange juice, and its made a big difference to the way I feel, lots less tired (and just in case you read the flylady thread Ive only been so tired this week due to very late nights and early mornings :rotfl: )

In fact off to have my spatone now
