Morning AP, have to think about that one but got a dodgy assignment today having 3 yr old grandaughter and I have a bad back so will be tricky catching up with her when she makes one of her regular 'lets run off' tricks.
Been meaning to ask you what goodies were in your last auction box that you bought, I'd love to be searching through one of those.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

Hi needmoney - as you have gathered I love the boxes that the auction staff don't think are worth the bother of putting on a tray, these are on the floor under the trestles and you have to be prepared to sit on the floor for a rummage (without going 'wow, look at this' and making a big fuss if you see anything you like)
These usually go for less than £10.00 and sometimes as low as £2.00. In the last few sales I have picked up a stack of huge damask linen napkins, 5 bundles of antique lace, a few 1930's breakfast pieces, a lettuce leaf and tomato dish (that's the shape not the suggested contents!) some art deco buttons and a huge stack of china, vintage and modern - those are all saleable stock.
The things I found for us to keep include a kitchen slicer that transformed our HM bread and ham into delicate slices rather hacked about lumps, a genuine Indian tiffin tin (3 stainless steel bowls held together with a band, used in India for lunches) 12 squared-off round squat drinking glasses, 2 magnifying glasses, a little box containing 5 x 20 pence stamps, loads of tupperware type boxes, some matching modern plates for my son to take back to Uni for his plate spinning act (I think that's what it is) and a very recent microwave oven (£6.00) and a colour remote control TV, again so recent it was also in silver for £10.00.
I love my auctions!0 -
Wow! What a haul. I must have a look where and when my nearest auction is but knowing my luck it would be a box of junk worth less than I paid for it.:rolleyes:Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

AT, what kind of auctions are these that you go to? I keep looking for auctions in my area but haven't seen anything that does *mixed* items like that, keen to learn if you are willing to divulge. Although, I understand this is also you ?business? or similar
Anyway thanks

Glad you survived to tell the tale NM:j.Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Hi Murtle, I think that most towns will have auction houses that have what is often termed as 'general' auctions, I think that it would be well worth a look in yellow pages to get the numbers and phone them up to ask what they sell and when the next sale is. Even relatively posh auction houses will have the odd general sale in amongst the antique and art sales.0
