PLEASE HELP.I have lived in my current house now for nearly 3 years (3yrs in may).It was a new build .My question is, as my house is a new build , am i still entitled to try to claim for my house to be rebanded.I am currently in band E, but after checking Martin's advice, i find my house should really be in band D.I would like to know if anyone feels that i have an strong case or not.

I moved into my brand new house 12 years ago. Following Martin's article a year or two ago I challenged my council tax banding. It got reduced from band E to Band C without any trouble. I received a refund of £2500, plus I didn't have to pay any council tax at all for the rest of that year (worth just on £600). Then last week, I received out of the blue another cheque from the council for nearly £400 as an audit had shown that I had been underpaid! So I got back £3500 in total with very little trouble, and with very great thanks to Martin!
So, the fact that your house is a new build has nothing to do with whether or not you can challenge your banding.0 -
Sorry, I made an error. My banding got reduced from E to D (not C - I wish!).0
