Northern Rock were fine. I was dreading ringing them after the events of the past few months but it was not a problem. They are sending the forms out within 7 working days, then I've just got to return them with a cheque for £75 and it's all done. It's the same to change them back again too, so at least when this is all sorted out in 3 or 4 years time, I can go back onto repayment again.

I really sympathise with you. It's a horrible situation to be in - having to spend on your cards just to feed yourself. Life really doesn't seem fair sometimes.

I really hope everything works out for you. Perhaps if you speak to Northern Rock you could take a payment holiday like I have and go onto interest only - that really worried me but was so simple and cheap to sort out.

    Good Luck x

I have already taken the three month payment holiday which was a great help! - That will definitely give you some breathing space.

I wasn't sure how difficult it would be to change to interest only -so thanks for that info. I will definitely look into that.

Jue3107 I do hope it works out for you too.

(Just a thought for some extra money - I listed a whole lot of books on Amazon a few days ago and have sold over £100 worth - Amazon have taken their cut of course - but it is really easy selling on Amazon much less time consuming than eBay. I also use Royal Mail online postage so it's all quick and streamlined. Off to do a postal drop now in local PO box. Wish I could make a living this way)

Crikey that's a lot of money - to be honest I've never thought about selling on Amazon. What percentage do they usually take? I've got loads and loads and loads and loads of books all in excellent condition. I don't tend to part with them but that sounds very worthwhile.

I've added onto your original thread about Northern Rock. It's only £75 to change to interest only and you can change back to repayment as and when you are ready.

I'm going to try and sort out a few things for ebay when I get chance. I always think no one will want to buy it though. Fingers crossed.

I've just listed 8 books on Play Trade. There is no listing charge. 10% commision and 50p closing fee which i thought was pretty good. Will be off to sort out some books properly tomorrow night now.

    Thanks very much.

I hadn't heard of Play Trade so will have a look at that.

I have the equivalent of a small bookshop in my home - wall to wall bookcase in one room and plenty of books in all the other rooms. I hate parting with my books but I need to thin them out anyway if (when) I move. I can't remember exactly what the percentages are but this is an extract from Amazon email on one of my sales

    "Buyer's Price: £7.99
    Amazon Commission: (£2.38)
    VAT on Amazon.co.uk: (£0.35)
    Postage Credit: £2.75
    Your Earnings: £8.01"

I suppose Amazon's cut is quite hefty but the postage credit helps a bit and they make everything very easy and quick to upload.
I find eBay far more of a chore with the photos, description etc.

Thanks for the advice about NR interest only!

the web address is https://www.play.com then you find links from there to the play trade website. It takes a few mins to set up an account but I had done that and listed 9 books in less than 20 mins :o)

You do have to pay postage on this one though.

I've just saved £250 a month going intrest only.
