Can Aktiv Kapital Do This???

hi, new to this and just got 2 letters from AKTIV KAPITAL demanding money
for a debt 11yrs ago and this is the fisrt time ive had any contact regarding this,didnt no who this company was until i got the demand and also viewed comments/replies on this forum which is very helpful,
thanks to you guys/dolls i have a bit of hope now.

Surely a debt collecting agency can't just sell your details to another company for advertising purposes? I thought that you had to be given the option to opt IN not opt OUT by post.

And while we're on the subject of Aktiv - has anyone ever managed to get a full and final settlement figure from them?

Yes it is legal. Data Protection legislation allows for opt outs from mail and telephone marketing by any reasonable means including you having to write to the company. E mail marketing is at present the only form of marketing for which you have to opt in.

I had a letter from Aktiv Kapital about 6 months ago and replied with the usual "I do not acknowledge this debt..." etc and haven't heard a thing since.

Don't know how they get hold of these debts, but they are fishing. The chances are that not many people will be aware of the 'Statute Barred' legislation and they will probably 'catch' up to 50% of those who they write to. Disgusting way to do business.
