Read about this in the latest Linspire letter
Linspire is an operating system for your computer very similar to microsoft windows but alot cheaper.
Linspire is based on KDE which is a desktop environment that runs on the Linux Kernel. In 5.0, Linspire have updated the OS with all the latest offerings of the opensource community, like a new version of KDE, new the mozilla web browser, a new kernel, the new more efficientreiser filesystem and have improved their click and run software.
Linspire operate a subscription model called "click and run" which enables users to easily install and maintain software with a few clicks. It's important to remember that most of the software you install is compeltely free and if you like you can get it for free from elsewhere on the web. However linspire do not charge for this software they charge you for the convienience of oneclick installs, because installation on other linux distributions is a little more difficult. It's true linspire charge for the OS, but this is still reasonbly cheap at $49, and much cheaper than XP.

Linspire also has quite an active community which may interest you.
And here's a nice little page listing all the projects Linspire support. Even though I don't use the distro I'm quite impressed by the amount of money they pump back into the F/OSS community.
$19.95/year for the click and run service is a great deal and offers the following benefits.

Don't use Linspire.
While it is a fancy and polished Debian, but you can all the same things with even more software for free.
Ubuntu is the version of Linux you want, it's free to download, use and update. If you really don't like Gnome and want a KDE desktop then just use KUbuntu.
Trust me, this does make sense to some people ;-)0 -

I have nothing to do with this organistion, I don't even use the product.
If you don't believe me why not look at some of my other posts on MSE and see how long I've been a regular user here.
What would you rather I do? Just place a link saying "get linspire click and run here for $19.95" and little else?
I'm merely trying to explain what the product does the best way I can and have gone to the effort to do this in my own time, for the benefit of MSE users.
I guess in future I should just make a short one line topic and not go to this effort because quite clearly it's very unlikely to be appreciated on these boards.
however if you're rpoints user Sarah7, this may go someway to explaining your reply.
And for the user who mentionied ubuntu, Ubuntu is a great distro yes and Ubuntu are slowly deveoping a relationship with Linspire which is great, please see this thread for info about this relationship.
A picture of Kevin Carmony (Linspire CEO) meeting Mark Shuttleworth(Founder of ubuntu) and others to discuss this relationship.Don't use Linspire.
Do you think Mark Shuttleworth would give the same advice?
To quote the CEO of linspire slightly out of context on his views on ubuntuWe view Ubuntu the way Red Hat view's Fedora...it's a wonderful open source "lab" where development can freely take place. Linspire can then add the necessary things required for distribution by the commercial channel (licensed codecs for mp3, real, quick time, flash, jave, etc., as well as polish, ease of use, support, sales team, etc.).
Ubuntu and Linspire compliment each other very well, and we're excited to have forged a new relationship and work together. Mark and Ubuntu are doing a lot of great work and are very good for both Linux and open source!

Linspire is a great OS geared toward Windows users which I think many money savers would benefit from using.0
