OR interview today

Just thought i'd ley you all know how it went today. I had my OR iterview today and it was nowhere near as bad as i thought. I thought they would be really off with me because of how i lost all my money (gambling) but he was really nice and even made me laugh a little in my nervous state.

He asked lots of questions half of which i didn't know the answer to as he was asking about debts i had about 5 years ago which i couldn't remember much about but he said it wasn't really a problem and he could find stuff out himself.

I'm allowed a car because of my job (community nurse) but he's not sure if i can keep my current car as it is worth about £3000 and they usually only allow £2000 but he's going to let me know but apparantly it might be a few months before he lets me know.

He went through my I&E figures and he agreed the figures for most of them although he wouldn't allow anything for birthdays/christmas or emergencies and he also reduced my figure for car tax/MOT/repairs from £60 to £40 so it wasn't too bad but he said that my IPA wouldn't be set up for a few months yet - does this mean i get to keep the surplus for those months running up to the set up of my IPA - anyone know?

I asked about the BRU/BRO and he said that will probably be sorted out in about 6 months.

So all in all it was a lot better than i thought. He did say that i would probably need a 2nd interview to verify a few things but he wasn't sure when this would be.

So i just want to say another big thanks to everyone that's helped me get this far xx

Girlie xx

    Hi girlie,

Glad to hear it went mostly okay :)

That was bit mean though, not allowing you anything for christmas/birthdays, I've read of lots on here that were allowed this :( Yet another example of the inconsistencies of different ORs

Re your surplus - well, I would assume you could keep it until the IPA is set up, but hopefully someone else can confirm this for definite.

Am surprised at how long it will take to sort out a BRO/U - they don't like to rush themselves do they?

    HIya Scarlett

How's things going for you at the moment?
I know i thought he was a bit mean not letting me have birthdays/ christmas but he was quite good with my other figures so i didn't mind too much

I was shocked about how long it takes to sort out the BRO/U as well. I know i'm going to get one i would just like to know how long for but i guess i'll just have to wait and see x

Thanks Dalip that's good to know about the IPA not being backdated because it means i won't have to rely on my parents to buy my car back if i need to x

    Hiya,

We have our interview on Thursday morning <gulp>, so sort of in limbo at the moment just waiting for that. At the moment I'm swinging between feeling utterly terrified to feeling like 'oh well, what's the worst that can happen now?'!

    Hi Girlie,

Thanks for posting on my thread, i've just been reading through your experiences and just wanted to say i think you've been really strong and brave. As you say we're in very similar situations (negative equity, debt due to gambling etc) and it's so hard to know what to do for the best. It's weird because i've found myself going through the same thought processes you did a few months back eg rent the house and try to keep it, struggle on etc etc. And now i'm beginning to think that BR is the only way to put the past few years behind me and make a fresh start.

Reading all the great advice you received has also answered load of my questions!

I had one practical question for you.....once you stopped paying your creditors so had more money coming in for a bit, what did you do? Did it go into your BR or did you keep it separate? It's not that I want to 'hide assets' or anything if I go BR, it's more that I will still need to live after BR eg probably having to pay lots of rent upfront because I won't pass a credit check with a landlord etc.

Anyway, i'm really glad your OR interview went better than you thought. Above all else that's the bit i'm dreading because of the gambling. I hope you keep posting, and good luck with your fresh start!

Susie you are so right, Girlie has come on in leaps and bounds since her first post. I have noticed that you are starting to become stronger in your posts as well, little baby steps and you will get there.

The extra money you save to go towards your rental property will be fine as long as you sort a house out before BR if not then the OR may well ask for it.

    Hiya Susie
The people on this website have been absolutely amazing. I was really scared about telling people about my situation as i was so embarrassed that i'd got so much debt due to gambling. I really thought i would be judged and boo-ed off the website but i couldn't of wished for a more supportive and knowledgeable group of people so don't worry susie , these guys on here will help you to get to a brighter future.

I'm so glad i went bankrupt - it really is a fresh start!

As for the money spare due to not paying creditors - i started paying rent to my parents as soon as i moved in and i used some of it for costs of moving such as renting a van and i paid my court fee and i also had to have emergency brake repairs on my car so i haven't had a lot spare so far but the OR didn't ask me about any money i had left in my bank account so i'm keeping quiet ;o) x
