Loads, you can always go from a static to a tourer?

You could take it and park it in Weybridge then!

    My 2 pence:

1p - No body should be relying on 1 asset class for their retirement. Housing may have a long-term trend of going up, but what happens if you need money and the market is currently at the bottom? It can take years for it to recover.

2p - This report is by Standard Life. They make money selling their pension products. Of course they are going to suggest people are better off using them. If the report was by Nationwide, the suggestion may be that houses are better.

Thats the same with any media article. If sponsored or prepared in conjunction with a company, they often have a spin on them to suit that company.

However, there can be merit in what is being said and you take the bits that are important to consider and chuck out the company spin.

Indeed. But many people use property as part of their retirement planning, and there's nothing wrong with that in principle. Doesnt work for everyone - for instance my house is worth 150k at best which doesn't leave a lot of scope for downsizing.

With an ageing population the demand for bungalows could rise and make this worse.
  • My parents are considering downsizing to a retirement flat or retirement apartment. They have received some advice that Mcarty and Stone offer a good deal but I've been looking around for a few options. Golden Living are company that seem to have apartments in the right areas but I don't know much about them. Does anybody know whether they offer a good service or value for money this is there web address http://www.goldenliving.co.uk

    Thanks
