Oh for a 28k mortgage. Mine is nearly 18 times that!0

Ditto on the reading the article part whether to clear it or not?
Have you thought about getting an offset mortgage? I've got one with Lloyds TSB (actually with Cheltenham & Gloucester) and my savings = my mortgage. So I've effectively got a 0% mortgage and at the same time a safety net of readily available funds if I needed it.
My mortgage payments now come out of my offset bank account so it's self-levelling (offset account balance = mortgage balance + 1 month payment) to make sure that I don't pay any interest and don't have any more being offset than I need."A child of five could understand this. Worst "I live in a !!!!!!! massive house" brag ever.
!!!! off if you're not going to contribute.0 -
wasn't meant to be a brag. How could being in so much debt be a brag?!
I was just astonished at the low mortgage - I should be free to say that. I'm sure a lot of people would agree that's a wonderfully, enviably, low mortgage.
I am trying to be mortgage free, and I have posted about my efforts.
Why be so unfriendly?
And anyway, large mortgage does not equal large house in London.0 -

How can you say that?! I take real offence to this comment!!
I just got on the housing ladder in September 2007 and for a small end of terrace house I paid £145,000 with a mortgage of £113,000 in Coventry.
There are small terrace houses in Birmingham which would easily go for £500,000 or more and this is the mortgage this person might have!! God knows if they might have this in London?!
I keep a good eye on this board to see how people pay off their mortgages early however with my 30 year mortgage at the moment, it's going to be a long hall.
Stop being rude to people and be encouraging.
RANT OVER!Mortgage as Sept 2012: £96,000
Mortgage free: When i'm 39 / Sept 2023
Mortgage repayment = £588
