Not driven car for about 6 months. I had a 1 year no claims discount. Is this still valid or do i have to say no no claims discont? If its not valid how long does it last?

Thanks

It will normally lapse after 2 years so you are okay for a while yet.

now for next question ...if thats not being too cheeky

we have 2 cars (supposed to be one for me and one for the missis...but she's still learning to drive .......long story)

last year (upto end of September) i was down as driving both cars, i used one for the family and one as a runabout for work (too small for family)

i was insured with the same company and at the end of September received two number one year no claims discount letters

for whatever reason i have not used the runabout car for work and have been lazy and just used the larger car (therefore i havn't had insurance on the smaller car)

can i legally insure this 2nd car with 1 years no claim discount?

or because i have used a 1 years no claim discount on the other car i cannot use another one on this?

You might have heard about the insurers data base?

this is a quote from confused.com

"With two cars, a driver will need two lots of NCB - one lot for each car. Drivers can't share a NCB earned on one car between two cars."

does this mean i can use the 2nd no claims discount?

    and this from RAC's website

If I have a maximum no claim discount and I buy a second car can I add my no claim bonus to both cars?

The short answer is no. You must earn another set of no claim bonus for a second vehicle. However we can give our customers an introductory discount equivalent to the no claim bonus that they currently hold.

    anyone know the definative answer?

    thanks

If you have taken out two seperate policies you can earn two lots of no claims. However, if the second car is really for your wife, this is known as fronting and may invalidate your insurance.

    thanks missile

the second car was bought for my missis (but she still hasn't passed her test)

    therefore i drive both

by the way........when she does pass........will defo be getting insurance in her name as its cheaper

even though i have driven for over 10 yrs claim free (unfortuantly most being named driver on comapny cars)

    shes a woman....so she's cheaper

    For your info>
1.There are some companies who will give discount for company car named driver NCB
2.You may find it cheaper to go for a multi-car policy. I find it works out cheaper for me.
3.Bear in mind that although you have two policies, in the event of a claim on one it will have to be declared on the other.
4.If and when she does pass, it may be better to build up NCB for her. As you say some companies give women preferential rates, e.g. Diamond.
    shes a woman....so she's cheaper
You are a lucky man, my woman is very high maintenance!
