New mortgage whilst on maternity leave?

Hello,

My husband and I are looking to relocate after the birth of our first baby in September. However, it just occured to me that if I'm on maternity leave my salary may not be taken into consideration when taking out a new mortgage or increasing our exisiting one. So therefore I was thinking we'd have to get a mortgage offer sorted out before I leave work. How long do mortgage offers usually remain valid for? We will speak to our existing lender Abbey and enquire with them, but I was just after some advice really.

Thanks,

I've done a few mortgages for people on maternity leave & as long as the employer confirmed that the mother would be returning to work full-time, the lender took the normal salary into account. I had another instance where the mother was going back to work but on reduced hours......again, the lender based their decision on the reduced salary as opposed to the maternity pay.
