this is poor deal compared to the dell which is listed on this forum - the dell comes with a better processor and monitor included for less than the standaolne price of the acer

That PC has only got a Dual Core processor, while the Acer has a Quad core. The Graphics card is only 128mb on the dell while on this one is 256mb.

Are the new Phenom processors as good as the Intel ones?

shame dell are rubbish! pay for what you gte, i have 3 custom built pc's in the house that have running between 2 and 9 years and have NEVER had any trouble with them, not even crashed, the 2 dells we have on the other hand are cheap tack rubbish, that always crash, are slow and noisy. you get what you pay for.

I don't know about that generalist comment.

I used to build PCs for a living - no end of hassles from unstable drivers or hardware incompatibilities - and I don't bother any more as Dell is actually good quality kit, with a reasonable warranty, at a reasonable price. They were flaky a few years back but todays stuff ain't bad at all from my experience.

Only downside: all the software they pre-install (but then, for people who aren't experts, it WILL be making their lives easier, and experts like you and me can do a clean install though it might take a bit of time.

And you're saying your PCs haven't crashed in 9 years - I don't believe that for a minute. They're either left switched off, not being used much at all or are running Linux! :rotfl:

o and 1 more thing, on the computer im using at the mo which i got in 99, i have restarted windows all over a few years back to refresh it and get rid of all the crap as it was gettin abit slow, still going good though!

The intel quad cores are basically two dual cores mounted one on top of the other, hence bottlenecked results when parsing data between one bus to the other bus, thus unless a program supported full quad core completely, or had some decent support for multi threading in dual core, there is always that slow down of data (even by nano seconds).

The AMD Phenom is true quad core technology with a fantastic 1800Mhz front side bus!

It's a tempting spec. With room for expansion. I'm inclined to stick with XP for various reasons when I replace my PC but Thanks for posting. Welcome to the forum.
