If it wont even boot into Windows Safe Mode and you haven't changed any software it's likely to be a hardware problem.
Take a look at the suggestions I posted here.

Try removing the memory and CPU and resetting them. Memory first as it's usually the easiest to remove and put back in.0

Sorry missed the last 2 posts last night. I will give these 2 a go.
Thanks0 -
went for the using another xp cd to boot from - it worked but now it wants to register it as a new installation and I only have 30 days to overcome this.
I have emailed the company we bought the machine from but i don't hold out much hope.
So my Mum can now play her card games on the system but does anybody know what I do to avoid further trouble in 30 days?
A holiday maybe?0 -
Try not to be so Kack handed next time, your poor Mum must be lost without it.

What PC do you have? If you had no disc, then there should be a recovery option somewhere. Where discs are not supplied, there's often a hidden partition which contains the OS and a method of "recovering" a corrupt system.
Depends on the PC and who supplied it.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

If NOT then download belarc here....
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
...and run it. Belarc will create a "profile" of the PC as it stands now .... lists all hardware and software AND reveals all access/key codes for you.
Once you have that you should be able to call Microsoft's activtion/registration line (freephone number, I believe), they will ask you some security details then give you the registration code.
If the PC is a mass make like Dell the tower/case should also have a sticker on it with a security code. That security number will probably be needed too.
Explain to MS (if they ask) that this is a reinstall following a system crash/disk reformat.
Hope this works.
I have reinstalled my XP on a few occassions and MS were no trouble giving me a registration code.0 -
Err, why did the thread get bumped after 5 months?
Hope it's sorted out by now0
