A hoover for my stairs?

Hi all,
I'm struggling to keep my stairs carpet clean, I have a dyson upright which is great but not for stairs I struggle with the attachments everytime.
So have decided to keep that upstairs for the landing and bedrooms and get a cylinder one for the stairs. As I have tiled hall and kitchen and wood in living room I don't want to spend too much ( dyson prices) as it is only for the stairs.
I have got a hand held dust buster I use for crumbs but thats not powerful enough for the stairs.
Sorry to waffle, any ideas
Cheers

Hi,
Me again, what do people reckon to a Henry hoover, £89.95 in John Lewis at the mo and there is a £10 off code on here and free delivery and I could use quidco. So that should bring it down to about £70-75 approx.

Just to suggest an alternative handheld, the Dyson DC16 is very powerful for a handheld. Short battery life but then presumably that shouldn't matter if it's just the stairs. Not exactly cheap either but I got one for my bedroom and everybody finds it useful to use in addition to the Dyson upright we already have. Just an extra suggestion and to advise that not all handhelds are too weak."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Hi,
Have a look at this http://www.oreck.co.uk/products/info.ouk/BB870ED
I have the upright & it is a great vacuum cleaner.

If you're talking tufted carpet on the stairs you need something with a rotating brush, straight suction will not maintain carpet, the grit will stay at the bottom of the tufts and wear out the carpet. Stairs are almost the heaviest use area in most houses,This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

Forgive my lack of knowledge, will a cylinder have a rotating brush in the head unit?0

I think most should, but one of those things to keep an eye out for in listed specifications. There's actually a handheld with a rotating head, the Animal version of the DC16 but I think most people would have a heart attack at the cost of that for just a handheld, over £30 more expensive than the ordinary DC16."She is quite the oddball. Right have read the reviews of henry on Amazon, and I think this little dude is worth £80 of my money.
Feel free to chip in if you like

Henry's are great - my mum uses one in her shop and my stepdad, who's a carpenter, uses on in his shed. Apparently passing the 'sawdust test' is a sign of a good vacuum lol.0
