Underwriters - How Long??

We applied for a mortgage with Abbey 3 weeks ago and the Mortgage Broker keeps telling us the application is in the queue to be processed, but they are a few days behind. Does anyone have any idea how long these things take to process. Even though we had an agreement in principle 3 weeks ago, is it likely there could be a problem with the application?
Starting to get worried about it all now!

Just trying to remember what happened when we remortgaged to Abbey, if I remember correctly I think things happened quite quickly think the whole process took less than 4 weeks. We had low LTV so went on fast track system though, didn't need to check our salaries.0

It all depends... how straightforward your application is, how busy the bank is, etc.
My application is with First Direct, check out our time-line here.
It's frustrating, and you get little info back (unless you pester them like I do!). I would think that Abbey would be quicker than First Direct. If you check out the whole thread, you'll see the frustrations you can look forward to (on second thoughts - don't read it!).Andy

I've just had a remortgage complete in two weeks from application with Abbey. They have said they're a bit behind but I'm still finding them quicker than most lenders.
Three weeks since you had an agreement seems a bit long in my experience.0 -
I agree with Neil, Abbey are getting mortgages to offer in less than a week at present. what area of the country do you live in as Abbey have several processing centres dependant upon your location.
It is completely possible for you to phone abbey and ask if anything is wrong directly, completely bypassing your broker if you choose. All you need is the account reference number - at this stage you should be able to find that on your agreement in principle. let me know your area and I'll try and find the right number for you.

what about the coventry how long do they normally take?!0

not too long = 2-3 weeks max with coventry but I've not used them for 2 months. However a lot of how quickly a mortgage progresses depends on how your broker presents your application and if they have sent all the supporting documents required.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Thanks for all your answers! We're in the Manchester area, so don't know if they would be particularly busy.0

I used to use the Manchester team, based on fountain street all the time before i relocated to east sussex in October. They were fantastic and their service standards are REALLY good. I think there may be a problem with your case that your broker isnt telling you about this really isnt like them
Call 0845 609 0945 and ask for Haydor or Tracy, they are amongst the most experienced staff there and should help you.

I also use the Manchester office (North Wales team though).......I think there must be some info missing on your application if it's taking that long as they're normally a lot quicker.0
