My mortgage is £42,000 over 14 years and I feel exactly the same way - the cost and hassle makes it seem not worthwhile to change. A lot of mortgages only seem to be available for people borrowing £50,000 plus.

I also tend to go for the mortgages with no arrangement fee which means that the interest I pay seems way higher than everyone else's, but such is life.

Can't comment on enviro balls ;)
  • Would an option be an offset or other mortgage with no early repayment charges (I have a lifetime tracker with no ERCs), where you could take it out for >£50,000 and immediately puy off the extra you don't need (I realise this might take a month whilst the solicitors and banks do their stuff to get the excess monies to you).

It might well be worth it, but I don't like the thought of upping my mortgage, even if it would save money in the long term. Am extremely risk averse!! I will have a think about it nearer the time though - my fixed rate doesn't end til the end of the year.

Sorry to hijack your thread someoldbloke :)

Yes they do, but they don't leave any smell in the washing so if you like the smell of synthetic washing powders, don't use them. I think they are good - but I still use washing powder for really dirty items.

(Is this the right answer to your question? Or is this some mortgage product that I don't know about?)
  • cheers ma dears we will invest in enviro balls ,to put in our vests!

    Thanks for the smile!

I'm no expert, but I would think that the difference in total repayments between two mortgages may well be so small it is barely worth the hassle, let alone any costs involved. Why not look up on one of the calculators what the difference is between, say, 4.99, 5.45 and 5.99? That should tell you whether the time/hassle is worth it. (I will add I would be amazed if it was.)

Dunno about enviroballs. Perhaps your OH needs to start visiting Old Style, that's the board where you'll find all kinds of expertise about washing and other domestic skills, including cooking. You might never get the computer back ... but you will find yourself eating some wonderful food!
    Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600
    Overpayments to date: £3000
    June grocery challenge: 400/600

A lot of people are skeptic about this product...after reading may reviews we thought it best to make our minds up ourselves. After looking at various versions from various online stores, we fund prices ranging from £15 upto £35 plus, for what is essentially the same product. Eventually we purchased ours from www.ECO-BUYS.com, the price seemed OK, delivery was fantastic, they arrived within 2 days. As for the product, well the proof was actually in using them, we certainly won’t be purchasing washing powder again these balls actually work, a cleaner softer wash, and all at a lower temperature…What I would call a WIN WIN situation. If you are one of those skeptc’s try them I am sure you won’t be disappointed.
