I want to say a big thankyou for the replies all of you are so helpful and supportive, im glad that im getting the debts dealt with now rather than later. I spent a good half hour on the phone to a CAB advisor this afternoon to see if i could bring my appointment forward & luckily i did call, the person i need to see to help with the financial side of things is fully booked up till april 3rd & my hubby's appoint on friday was to just asses how bad things were getting with the debts. The lady was very helpfull and said that i could have a short interview on the phone to explain what we owe, she is going to send us out a debt pack and told me to cancel all direct debits and for my hubby to open another basic bank account so that his wages are safe. She also advised me to keep upto date on my rent so i paid that off in full today with the rest of the money we had left in the bank & i will pay my council tax off on friday then that will allow me to stay on top.
Our next appointment is on 3rd April and she can then give us the best option to take wether its Bankrupcy or making arrangements to pay them all off.
Im not looking forward to all the forms but it will be such a relief when its all over. Any phonecalls or letters we get re debts i am to inform them we are getting advice and we will be intouch at beginning of april.
Tomorrow i will be getting forms for rent help and CT help i dont think we can get anyhelp but ive got to try & i have already cut our shopping bill with the advice i have read on these forums in the last few weeks.
Thankyou all so much again, i will update soon on my progress x0 -
Hiya
it may be worth plugging your details into www.entitledto.com, so you can check the benefit situation. WTC or CTC?
With respect to the debt charities, could you try either CCCS or the national debt help-line. They have more advisors that cab and CCCS have a debt remedy on-line. See http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help
Just to add that you need to keep some money on the CCs, in case he DOES want to go BK, so you have enough to pay the fees.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
It might be worth, before saying you have difficulties, phoning your creditor and asking them to lower the interest. They might say yes if you having been paying min payments ok so far.I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Forgot to say the Morrisons Debt, it makes me angry that we are paying them. Last year my hubby resigned from there because of another member of staff to cut a long story short my hubby was owed holiday and was given the option of working his notice or using up his holidays left as the situation at work became unbearable he chose to use his holidays. The last wages he got were not the full pay and they owed him still 1 days holiday pay. A few weeks later we get a debt letter saying morrisons had overpaid him because he was in breach of contract and that he did not work his resignation so hubby now owed them the extra. We tried writing to them and they used the normal threatning letters, in the end hubby called them and arranged to pay 25 a month. I know we could of took them to court but the amount of stress we have had lately it seemed easier just to pay.0

Hubby asked his employer last night if he could have his wages transferred into my bank account this week until he can open another bank account as his day off is not till friday, they have said that they cannot put his wages into anyone elses account even though im his Wife! They said they could be liable. I have never heard of this before so it looks like it will be a race on Friday morning to transfer the money over to my account before it all gets taken.0

maz i dont know if they are allowed to put it in someone else account but here are some suggestions. Can you ask them for a cheque and to stop the bacs this week and then on friday you will give them new account details for the following week? Do you know what time rounghly they will be deposited? If they are usually showing at midnight? could you not wait up untill that time and then go to a csah point and withdraw the money? Obviously if they dont show into the account till 8pm usually then you could just go out then?0
