in Cutting tax
Hi, my husband and I both work in the public sector ( police officer and nurse) We were wondering if we are entitled to get tax relief on things such as professional registration, parking costs, clothing and laundry expenses etc.
Any help and pointing us in the right direction would be appreciated.

***Board Guide comment***MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere, so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.Torgwen.....................

Nurses get a fixed rate expense allowance - back in my day it was £45 - you need to ring HMRC and point out that you are a nurse and ask them to include the deduction in your code and to go back 6 years, if applicable. Your professional subs are allowable in addition to the fixed rate allowance, so you will need to give details of these.
As to policemen - I am not sure if they have a fixed deduction or not - does he have to clean his own uniform, launder shirts, etc? If so, then he should claim the fixed deduction if it exists, or else a reasonable amount to cover home laundry, etc.
Parking in the course of your duties would normally be reclaimed from your employer. Parking at your place of work is not allowable for tax purposes.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
