Does anyone have any good tips for lettering for cards.

I've to make a new baby card and an 80th birthday card sometime very soon and thought that I'd buy some letter stickers to pur names / messages on but I can't find them anywhere on the high street and am far too impatient for them to be delivered from an online store.

I saq quite a lot of those silvery type stickers today but son't think they're what I want.
    Any ideas gratefully erceived.

Also, I wanted to but myself a good craft knife for cutting out ( I had thought of printing out letters on my printer and then cutting them out but scissors are too tricky. I couldn't seem to find any. What should I be looking for. All these craft accessories and phrases are quite confusing for a newbie!

    hiya :)
I cut most of my lettering out on my craft robo which is a machine that cuts out whatever image you make on screen. This is about 250 pounds so probably not an option right now but I thought with christmas coming up wink wink nudge nudge. I LOVE to use these letter stickers from American Crafts:
    http://www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/app.detail/params.item.586141/walk.yah.UKCO-UK73
They are usually 3-4 pounds A PACK!!

But these are also an absolute bargain:

If you can't wait for delivery I have seen them ones in Poundland.

For cutting, Always have a glass cutting board as it will give you the cleanest cut and won't blunt your blade. You can get a glass chopping board for about 3 pounds from Tesco.

I use a craft knife set (In the mens tools section) from Poundland and it works fine. Best tool you can use is a scalpel which you can buy from a pharmacy if you ask and the blades are very cheap.

I used to cut out LOADS of fonts by hand. I got most of them from www.dafont.com which is just amazing for fonts. You could even print your greeting onto the card instead of using letter stickers. To test it, print on a piece of A4 then tape your card blank over the top of where the printer printed out so you know it will be aligned perfectly when it prints.

Hope this all helps :D x

Thanks, you;ve certainly given me a few ideas.

My friend has a cricut machine so with a bit of notice, I can get her to cut things out for me but I don't like to trouble her too much. Besides, I like to craft when I'm in the mood and having to plan ahead spoils any spontaneity.

I went to pounland in Sheffield today to have a look for some stickers but unfortunately they didn't have any decent ones. My visit was also cut short by the fac that some 'youths' set off a stink bomb in the back of the store and I'm a bit pathetic ewhen it comes to nasty smells!

I'm just having a go with my one pack of alphabet stickers that I have in the house. I don't really like them but I have a plan that should make them usable. I'll post you a pic when I've finished.

I always feel like I have to hold myself back when making things as the inner child in me wants to cover every inch of the surface with stickers / writing etc.

Hope this one isn't too restrained.

gorgeous card dawnteabag I think those letter stickers look perfect!

    Thanks,

The stickers themselves are very small and transparent apart from the letter, they didn't look right when I put them together on one piece of card but by putting them on a seaparate piece each they seemed to have the right impact.
  • Congratulations Krystaltips! *must restrain own broodiness, not time to have kids yet!*

I've just been online looking for inspiration for a 'Thinking of You' card, but I think I know what I want to do now.

I got to go shopping today - husband spotted a craft shop in London (near one of his camera shops), so I finally have a shop I can go into, and they run classes! Hurrah!

    xx
In a better financial position than ever before (thank you MSE!). Moved back to Scotland and now trying to keep debt-free!

Krystaltips - congratulations! Me and the other half often talk about having another kid, but I think we'll stick with the two. I have sons aged 6 and 4 and they are a right handful.
Abusybee - I've ordered from onestop twice now and both times there were missing items from my order. My first order was weeks ago so I think I'll have to chase that up. The secon order was about three weeks ago, she assured me that the items would follow soon! Let us know how you get on!
Bunbun2 - what a great selection of cards. I have't made any for a while, I was going to do some tonight as the oh has gone out, but instead I've been watching x factor and then xtra factor.
dawnteabag - lovey card. I think its perfect, I'm often inclined to put too much stuff on a card and then end up ruining it.
