Providing you put as many details as possible on the forecast then they can find his NINO no problem. They may ring you up to confirm a few details again to make sure, but usually theres no need to.
Pension Forecasting staff have access to DCI (Departmental Central Index, the NI number database) and NIRS (National Insurance Recording System). Providing the person is competent then it'll turn up.
I used to be on the team dealing with Divorced and Widowed people at Pension Forecasting and would say that 90% of people didn't have the ex husbands NINO and it had to be traced.
It was probably less than a fraction of a % that couldn't be traced, and most of these usually turned up when it was re-checked.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
