I was hoping this would be a dvd game to use in dvd players and watch on tv, but it says in the front it is a pc cd-rom game.
    http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/commercial/article3452955.ece
Yesterday's was also a PC CD-rom game according to the pics in the promotion page.

I hope that the games this week will be DVD player ones, so that everyone can play around the TV, not just PC games.

Note: or am I wrong and you can play those "pc cd-rom game" in the dvd player??

Well it does say in the article you've linked to, as it did in the email I got, "The Times and The Sunday Times are giving away a selection of brilliant games to enjoy on your PC or DVD player.

Last Sunday it was reported that the Independent would be on sale for 30p rather than 80p (original source was claimed to be a newsagent) and the offer was mentioned again here every day Monday to Friday.

However (strange as it may seem, reportedly coming from a newsagent), the only Independent for 30p last week was the normal student offer at university/college campuses. Having read the post on here and having myself seen a copy of the front page on a website, I cautioned that it might be a regional offer since quite often newspapers have temporary price promotions in particular regions. In doing so it appears I was perpetuating a myth -- no such promotion existed! I apologise for this. My theory is that the copy of the front page of the Independent supplied to internet sites and TV news programmes for the 'what's in tomorrow's papers' type of review was inadvertently a copy with the (student) price of 30p on the front!

The lessons to be learned here are that we should not post until we have seen the actual newspaper, read an advertisement in the paper earlier or seen an ad on TV, and we should not rely on hearsay, however well-intentioned that may be. Please also remember that if you see an advertisement in your own newspaper or on TV trailing a promotion/offer for the next day, that may be a regional thing. Unfortunately, there is often no way of knowing this.

I hope this clears up the confusion about this 'offer'.

QS and QI (plus maybe movie quiz) I would suggest are most likely to be DVD games - I make this assertion on the basis that there are DVD games available of these in some high st stores....... doesnt of course mean that a freebie will have the same content :-)

And just to clear up this "clairvoyance", I was told by a newsagent about this AFTER I HAD PURCHASED an Independent on Sunday (last Sunday) for JUST £1 (which was "flashed" on the masthead as a "special offer price") and commented about "the bargain it was", it not being the usual £1.80.

This may well have been regional since it was NOT shown on their website

But surely it is up to each Moneysaver to check the offer is actually in the paper they are buying? Hence the postings of the relevant page numbers.

And on a weekend, in particular, if we waited until someone actually had a copy in their hands before posting........we could be here all day :D

I thought the idea of this thread was to highlight any possible offers/coupons/freebies available in the newsheets .......to give posters an inkling of what to look for.

Feel free to correct me anyone, if i've got that wrong. :)

Fair comment! I was trying to stress the importance of accuracy in posting, but in the end each of us has the job of checking it out ourselves.
