Weekend payments......

Why can't banks make automatic payments, like taking loan payments or generating CC statements at the weekend? Can they not just put the system on auto-pilot for the weekend?
I was all poised to pay a big chunk off my CC today, as the statement is due, but it hasn't changed at all..... and my loan payment is due, but that hasn't gone either (and I've already changed my sig

Hi
Dont know what bank you are with but my payments that were due on the 1st came out of my account today. I am with the Halifax.

I'm with LloydsTSB and they haven't processed them but I am sure that some weekends payments go through - oh hang on, that might be the Egg side of my stuff.
As an aside, how many bank accounts have you got??
I have never really thought about it before but I have 5! Three current accounts (one for main banking, one for some direct debits that I couldn't choose the date of and one for my luxuries budget) a savings account (nowt in it - obviously) and an ISA (which does have some money in it because I may be homeless soon as my housemate/landlord is selling the flat from under me so I will need to rustle up a deposit)£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

PAID.... atm I have 4 current accs, one for MBing/Bingo etc, one bills acc, one 'living' acc and a basic bank acc to allow instant transfers from OH's acc to mine...'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0 -
I quite like that weekend payments stay put until the Monday - means the interest is coming to me rather than the bank, lol.
I also like a Lloyds glitch which means that my Monday incomings are normally available for me to play with online on Sunday afternoon, so I can get some bills etc sent off that little bit quicker (don't leave my account until Monday, but I've got them out of the way a day earlier in my head).
PoorAndIndenial - hubby and I have three accounts - he has a Lloyds Current Account, so that's the chequebook and debit card for shopping etc, and all benefits go in there as it has 4% interest (about £1.10 a month, but every little helps, lol).
I have a basic account, so very little interest (have no idea what the percentage is - I know it's only pennies a quarter) - we have all the household DDs (rent, utilities and insurances) go out from there and transfer the money from his account as needed.
And I have a Cash Isa where we fling any extra money for big bills, holidays etc - there's £8 in there right now, so you can tell how that's going, lol
