Hello OSers!
A bit of a jump here from my usual home over on DFW to ask for some of your sensible advice about house things...
Having spent most of the evening happily catching up on the DFW board, I have just been downstairs to lock up and opened my kitchen door t find horrible smelling smoke coming out of the door
I left a tea light burning on the worktop, not on a little dish, and now the metal bit has melted a bit of worktop and the surface is charred and smoky (kind of plasticky, not a wooden one). I am very cross with myself for being an idiot, esp as the kitchen is practically the only room in the house that didn't need any work doing to it...
So- 1) Is there anything I need to do to stop it smoking, or will it just take a little whle for the worktop to realise that the nightlight has now gone? It can't just keep melting the surface without the candle still there, can it?
2) How can I get rid of the awful smell in the kitchen-can't have the window open tonight as am just going to bed, so am pretty sure it will still be there tomorrow
3) Please tell me off for not having a smoke alarm fitted yet-have been in my house for six months now, and it needs to be done tomorrow
Thanks...

stop it smoking before you go to bed.
Put water on it!Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
GET A SMOKE ALARM TOMORROW! I'd say tonight but thats just daft - but you never know what could happen!
As above stop it smoking and cool the area down now. Open a wndow even for 10mins while you're getting ready for bed then do it again first thing in the morning.

Thanks, it's not smoking any more and the kitchen doesn't smell quite as awful as it did, and smoke alarm is top of my list for tomorrow-it scared me how smoky it was without me knowing, and the house is only small.0
