Advice Needed Before 3pm!

Options
 Well I was happily plodding anlong with my little life, and seeing to 3 children in the garden, today when the phone rang!
It was a saleman from a finance company, I normally have no time for these people and cut them short, but I don't know what happened today and I couldn't get a word in, before I knew it I was divulging, incomes/outcomes. Morgatgage lenders etc................the outcome of this long-winded story. Was the guy calling was from a company (wont mention in case I get into trouble) but his company acts as an agents fror all the high street banks/lenders. he took me through a lengthly questtionaire which resulted in..YES! you guessed it! They can save me money on my mortgage! (Hmmm)

I did explain that I thought it was doubtful, that I was the tightest person going, that I was locked into a fixed-deal with my b/s and that the mortgage I pay was fine etc.etc...

But, nevertheless, he was adamant that savings are to be had, it would only take an hour of my time, there is totally no obligation. He assures me that once the consultant has been I will be over the moon, wonder why i didn't do it sooner etc. etc.

CONCLUSION:-
Mortgage advisor will be calling on weds at 8pm.
But because its a joint mortage they also have to check with my husband that its want he wants too (he's very laid back!)

The salesman is ringing again at 3pm today, to get the all-clear from my husband!

Can't believe i have let myself in for this!

What do you all think?

regards
pot

Refuse point blank. You don't want it, you didn't approach them, they approached you. He's a salesman. Say no and put the phone down. (Assume you haven't signed anything? If you have, make sure husband will NOT sign.) Tell him to cancel mortgage advisor, be firm.
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
  • Thanks guys1 Will try to get my husband to refuse him! but he's a very strong seller! Can't believe he got round me.

These always that little notion that makes me think, maybe, just maybe, what he said may save me money, BUT like my signature says ........................

    Pasted from FSA site
Our financial promotion rules therefore ban unsolicited real-time promotions (cold calling) unless there is a pre-existing customer relationship through which the consumer expects to receive such promotions.

Are they breaching this rule, if so would you want to be dealing with such a firm

So maybe you can save money... but you need to research your options first.

They can only contact you if you have filled in a questionnaire or marketing ad somewhere.

From working in my last job for a Well known group of Financial Advisers, I can tell you that the 'high pressure' guy who rang you on the phone will not be visiting you at home, phew, so don't worry. ;)- (unless its a very small firm)

The person who visits you at home will have to be at a minimum a CeMAP qualified Adviser. Eventhough they can be just as pushy you have more indemnity from the FSA than ever before, (cooling off period).

The mortgage market has changed sufficiently over the past few years so there is a good possibility this firm could save you something, if you took yours out some years ago. So why not let them do the leg work for you? You could let the Adviser conduct the initial 'Fact Find' to see what they come up with. Then use the info at the 'Presentation' stage (2nd home visit) to compare if Martins Mortgages section on this site can get you a similar deal but minus the FA firms fees, of course ;), £2k in my old employers case.

    Good Luck :)

Yes but only if you knew what the questionnaire was likely to be used for

    Again pasted from FSA

Our rules will allow you to continue to use legitimate lead generation techniques, such as consumer questionnaires, providing consumers clearly understand how their data is being used and consent to being approached by a mortgage firm.

Although agree with Bash - look around, get info, might be worth taking advice to see if you should do something ( could ask the calling firm but personally I would ask whether fees would be charged before taking it further, then make up your own mind)

  • Hello all,

    Many thanks for your replies.

As I said ealier, my husband is the very laid back sort, and I thought he would just say "oh, let him come". But..to my surprise, when he came home from work (6-2) was in a foul mood and when I told him, his reply was *great - I am just ready for someone like him to ring!*.

    Sure enough 3pm.....ring, ring.

Husband gets phone, and obviously I could only hear our end of the conversation which went "Hi, mate, yeah wife told me about your previous call, no we are not interested, sorry", "no, not interested", "No mate not interested".
LOOK MATE! I will either cut you off, or we can say "BYE".................."Goodbye Then!"

Wohoo, he did it :T (did look at little drained at the end of the convo though!) Sort of grey looking..........hehehe!

    Lucky you!

My husband just says "I think you want my wife" - gives the phone to me and then says "You were a bit short" when I tell the person that we are not interested and not to phone again!
