tax/NI deduction query

Hi all,

I'm currently on a salary of £15k and last year I received an annual bonus (one off payment away from my normal monthly wage) of £800 before tax. £176 tax came off, so did £75.20 NI. I ended up with £548.80

I make that to be 31% deductions in total. This year I have been told I'm receiving £1100, am I right to assume that 31% will come off again? I'm baffled by this 31% figure, I was under the impression that the normal deductions equate to 22% (before pensions etc are taken off)

Can anyone advise?

Hi, the tax and national insurance equates to roughly an overall 31%. This is made up of firstly 11% NI and then 22% income tax. - Hope this helps to understand. -keith1950
  • nice one keith thanks for coming back to me on this, it appears ive been getting the 22% from the income tax side then and thought that the percentage covered both, that would explain things, cheers :-)
