Reclaim paye tax overpayment

I have checked my p60 for year 2006/07 and realised I have over paid and am due a rebate of £250 which I have now contacted the tax office for.

However, Their website says I can claim for the last five years. Does anyone know where I may get copies of my prevous P60s as I cannot find them.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

If you ask your employer nicely, they may print you off duplicates. These should be clearly marked 'Duplicate' though. And they don't have to do this.

Failing that, if you look at your last payslip for each of the tax years (do you keep these?), all your year to date information should be on them.
:D Make a list of important things to do today. At the top, put 'eat chocolate'. Now, you'll get at least one thing done today. :D

Ask your employer for duplicates. They are allowed to issue duplicate P60's (as long as they are clearly marked as such) back to 2003-04.

For earlier years ask them to give you a statement of earnings. Basically a letter from them with the details that would have been on the P60. They may choose to do this for all years rather than duplicate P60s, and either are acceptable to the tax office.

You dont need your P60's for past eyars as HMRC will already have this info - they get a copy of your P60 from your employer every year.

  • sorry but payslips are not accepted for repayment claims you need to either supply your originals or ask your employer if they can supply a statement of earnings which must be written on company headed paper. Also although HMRC do received details of your past income there is no guarantee that this information is held or has been supplied by your employer so they often cannot process your claim unless you send supporting original evidence of your income.
The earliest date you can make a claim for at present is the 2002/2003 tax year (which ran 6/4/02-5/4/03). I would advise you to submit your claim with a covering letter detailling all your sources of income, pensions and benefits etc for the period you are claiming. Do not leave any gaps, eg if you were not working or were a student make sure you state the dates you weren't working. This should ensure that your claim is dealt with first time rather than you having to be contacted for further information.
