I got some Financial Times coupons from them. Just as they were running out they rang me up and asked if I wanted to take out a subscription. I declined. I'm now getting letters also offering subscriptions. Hasn't happened with any other newspaper though.

Just to note if you get annoyed by this sort of thing.

If you live near a univ with a campus shop just go there and pick up your paper at student prices (20p for most broadsheets).

The Uni tip is a good one and you wont get asked for ID or anything

Thanks for these links, I normally buy the papers for student prices at university but during the holidays I've been having to pay full price.

Also a quick tip, if you have any spare vouchers for the odd day or two which you didn't use to buy a newspaper then sometimes local newsagents will accept them as part payment for another paper/magazine etc.

You're probably refering to subscription vouchers. The customer takes out a subscription with the Telegraph at a reduced price, and the Telegraph send them a book of vouchers to use.

There'll be an address in the newspapers (Times, Telegraph and I think Indy do them). The vouchers are for the full value of the paper, but the subscription the customer pays to the publisher is much reduced. A customer of mine pays £1.50 a week subscription for the Times. True value of the vouchers is £5.35!
  • Do the shops normally ask to see your student card when using the vouchers?

I use them in local shops - garages /spar as well as supermarkets and have never been asked

I have never been asked. People of all ages have Student cards. You can apply for a student card even if you take a free computer course at your local collage.
