My Kenwood is not getting used

Options
Having got so excited about getting my Kenwood chef, I now find I'm not using it, well certainly not as much as I want to.

I have made butter (and very nice it was too:D). I tried to make a banana loaf in it the other day (cake type) but found the mixture just got too lost in the bowl while I was trying to cream the butter and sugar, the k-beater just sort of flattened it to the bottom of the bowl - I gave up in the end and used my hand mixer:o. Should I have doubled the quanitities or something, is the chef only good for making large quantities of mix?

Help please, I really want to make good use of it.

Another quick question for those of you who have taken your chefs apart to clean them, is this a fairly easy thing to do - or am I likely to end up unable to put it back together again?

I tend to use my Kenwood for bigger jobs and use a hand mixer for the little jobs.I batch bake for the freezer and find that the big bowl of the Kenwood makes it possible for me to make double the mixture.

As for taking it apart for cleaning, I'm a little unsure what you mean as other than the beater, bowl, splashcover and plastic disc under the bowl I dont know what else you would need to clean other than a quick wipe with a damp cloth

I found exactly the same, expected it to be a wonder appliance and felt a bit disappointed when I discovered that for some things it wasn't as good ( small amounts of cake mixture definitely being one of them! ) I only use it for cakes when I'm going to do a few at once to freeze ( banana loaf works well); the more mixture in it the better as far as the mixing goes. I do find I use it for butter making - I do this all the time now instead of buying butter - and also it's really good for kneading bread. The other good thing is meringues - it seems to get them really nice and areated. And mashed potato ( though only if I'm making a lot - to make it worth the extra wahing up). I haven't made much use of the liquidiser/ food processor attachments either ( too fiddly to put on, I'll need to try them more to get used to fixing them in place ).

As for taking it to bits to clean, emm, no, never even crossed my mind to do that ( I just wipe with a damp cloth after I use it..)

an old toothbrush round the fiddly bits works wonders as well! I probably use mine once a month, for batch baking - but it gets well used for that day and I think its well worth it.

I don't have a kenwood but a sabatchi and ours doesn't get used nearly as much as i hoped it would.

If it was on the side all the time i guess it would be different but i have to drag it out of a cupboard and then i find cleaning it becoming a chore.

Its great at what it does but i can do it quicker and cleaner often in a bowl with a bit of brute force.

Having said that, it was out today making meatballs for tea.
