The software works independently and scans files as they arrive on the computer. It also checks to make sure important files are not changed. Spyware – software that surreptitiously installs itself on a PC and reports back on its use – is also blocked.
Trend Micro Web Threat Protection checks web pages to make sure they do not contain anything risky. As only specific pages are blocked, the rest of the site can still be viewed. Websites can also be filtered with parental controls, so children can use the internet in safety.
Other online threats can be blocked by a two-way firewall. This not only stops hackers trying to access the computer but also stops outgoing traffic if something should slip through the net.
Scanning files and blocking hackers can be taxing even for powerful computers, but the latest Internet Security suite has been made more efficient, using less memory that could otherwise be used for something more useful. The time needed to complete scans has also been cut. Trend Micro Internet Security Pro works with both Windows XP and Vista.
