in Cutting tax
Hello there,
I graduated from University in June last year and was on JSA for 2 weeks in July before starting my first full time job. Having only worked part-time during my 1st year I'd never really encountered tax until now.
I started this job in August last year and have been on the tax code 522L M1 every month. I did the expected thing like giving the employer my P45 from JSA when I started. I'm beginning to wonder whether I've paid too much tax so far however.
Taking this from my most recent payslip:
Total Gross Pay TD: 9523.38
Gross Pay for Tax TD: 9398.32
Tax paid TD: 1239.73
Earnings for NI TD: 9383.00
National Insurance TD: 698.72
Any help would be appreciated as I'm finding this whole tax thing baffling right now.

I am guessing the JC had you on emergency code which is why you are still on it.
You dont want to wait until after the end of the tax year to claim your repayment as you will be in a queue with 100's of others all in the same boat. I think you should ring your tax office TODAY and tell them you are still on E code and ask them what info they need to put you on the correct code. If they can issue a code before your employer runs the March payroll, you will get your refund.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
Okay, thanks. I have haggled my employer for their tax office details, so hopefully I can get this sorted before the next payroll

How much should I, roughly, be expecting in terms of a refund? If I understand the maths referred to elsewhere here it works out at about ~£560?0
