Bought a beanbag £40 and a desk tidy £10 from John Lewis used £10 off £50 code went through ok paid £40. Price tag on beanbag £35. Can I claim £5 back? Thanks.

  • I would have thought that yes you are entitled to a £5 refund if the price on the beanbag says £35, then you can refund John Lewis the £10 you owe them for incorrectly using a voucher that was only valid on spends of £50 or over.

You could try giving them a call trying to blag a refund as John Lewis pride themselves on customer service, but I suspect you may be wasting a phone call.

Cheers Clive, Thing is if it had been priced £35 I would have bought some thing else to take total to at least £50 to use the first time buyer code.

Have to agree with Clive Woody.

As you bought the item online, the price tag on the item counts for nothing. Also, I wouldn't rely on excellent customer service from JL Direct, they really do not live up to the standards delivered in store.

I think legally the £35 price tag would only be an invitation for sale, so not a legally binding contract. The fact that you agreed a different price is irelevant, so (as far as I can work out), you wouldn't legally be entitled to get £5 back.

However, a quick phone call might be worth a go, and if it doesn't work out you may be able to return the goods under the Distance Selling Regulations.

The price tag would not even be an invitation to treat, as it was not seen by the buyer until after the contract was agreed.

I doubt you'd get a voucher, it seems the beanbag was £35 at some point and the price was increased but why bother re-ticketing things that will never see the shop floor?
