TRYING to sort credit file, PLEASE help!

Posts: 130 Forumite
I had a default through no fault of my own on my credit file. It was put on by egg and was sorted, they promised me faithfully that they would remove it. I took it for granted they would.
12 months later, i check my file and low and behold there it is slap bang on my credit file a big fat default!!
I telephoned egg and eventually got someone to look at the history of the closed account and said they would refer it to a manager, the following day this was done and they assured me it would be removed. Three weeks later its still there!! I phone again and they say that its been transfered to someone to have a look at, i was surprised as they said it had been sorted.
Someone then speaks to someone else :mad: who assures me that their is no problem and it will be removed from my file within 24 hours!!!
72 hours later and yes, there it is, still on my report!!!
It is a nighmare for me to get through to egg as it is an old account and its all automated, i am so damn frustrated, their quick enough to stick the default on through no fault of mine, but are a nightmare when it comes to be taken off!
Can anyone advise me on what to do next please?!

Do you have any proof of your requests to remove the default and their agreement to get it sorted?
If not then try one last time by phone maybe, stating that if they don't correct the entry ASAP you will complain to the Information Commissioners Office under the Data Protection Act.
If they don't correct it then write to the "data controller" for Egg. They are responsible for ensuring that they comply with the Data Protection Act which covers the data they place on your Credit Reference Files.
State that if they do not correct the entry, then you will make a formal complaint to the Information Commissioner's office.Registration Number: Z8105548

To the creditor/CRA.Q? I have my credit reference file but some of the information is wrong. What can I do?
If your query is about other credit information, you can write to the lender or the credit reference agency. If you write to the credit reference agency, it will normally need to contact the lender and ask it to investigate your complaint. You may therefore find it quicker to write directly to the lender yourself.
This will also save you having to write to each of the agencies that hold the information you think is wrong.
Writing to the lender
- Give your full name and address. It may also help to give any relevant account numbers or reference numbers to help them find your information.
- Explain what information you think is wrong and why.
- Provide any proof you have to show the lender why the information is wrong.
- Keep a copy of any letters you send.
- Give the lender a reasonable time to reply, say at least 28 days. This will enable it to investigate the problem.
Writing to the credit reference agency
- Give your full name and address. It may also help to give your credit reference file number.
- Clearly explain what information you think is wrong and why.
- Provide any proof you have to show why the information is wrong.
- Keep a copy of any letters you send.
- removed the entry from your file;
- amended the entry;
- taken no action.
If, after writing to the lender or the credit reference agency, the information is still wrong or you do not get a response, you may wish to contact the Information Commissioner.
See pages 22-24 for who the Information Commissioner is and how to make a complaint.

No Problem.

If Egg don't get it sorted then really make that complaint. First in writing to Egg, and then to the ICO.
