Thank you Misty for your kind offer but I knew I would never have the nerve to get a sourfaced person to take the back off etc! Just too meek and timid.

I found a place on the high street that did it for a fiver in about thirty seconds with a nifty little machine thing. Not as cheap as the £2 that's been quoted here, but still looks good in comparison to the cheapo plastic watch I would have ended up buying.

    Thanks to all of you!

As long as you're happy Badgergal we're happy for you.

    It's a reasonable price.

Me too am running around watchless cos my battery has gone, but ive not had it all that long!

Ive gone through 2 batteries in the spate of a year??? first i got the shoemender near me who charged £5 - but only lasted 6 months. so then I decided to go to a jewellers, various prices quoted one of £25!!!!! I got it done in Samuels for £10, but that still hasnt lasted, but i have kept the receipt this time to take back, cos you do get a year guarantee, but what a difference in prices!

I dont have a local market unfortunately to get a cheapo £2 offer!

My new watch has a solar cell so hopefully wont need a new battery ever.I bought it in Index but I expect other places have it too.Its caled an Eco-Drive and its made by citizen. I did have a swatch which I loved but because the case was plastic, bits kept breaking off whenever it had a new strap and then play wrestling with my son,the whole of one side finally went.I used to get my batteries in Maplins (99p)and they would put it in for free.

I doubt if it was done in thirty seconds it's still waterproof, unless they told you otherwise, I've always been told they need to send it off to retain it's waterproofness...or something like that - just wouldn't want you to ruin your watch

Most watch batteries are about 40 - 50p - Good brands too. Only problem is free postage is for orders over £30, but it's easy to spend that with them as they've got shedloads of stuff. Technically a trade supplier, but seem to be OK if you pay in advance.

PS. if you need a tool to unscrew the back - they're on ebay.

The watch said "water resistant" which I understand is different from waterproof anyway...I will try and be careful...thanks for the warning!

I will consider a tool from ebay in future and maybe do it myself...!

Watch Batteries, Camera Batteries, Cordless Phone Batteries and Watch Straps. They also sell a tool for removing the back off your watch. Highly recommended company.
