Hi,
I was Self Employed last year but the business Failed and I have been signing on and claiming JSA, I am looking for work and found and applied to some Mystery Shopping Companies, I was accepted to one but they want me to complete a P46 ?, now if I tell the Job Centre I am working they will want to know who, when, wages etc, but this company will only pay me £10 for visiting a clothes shop !, and that might be it for weeks !, but if the P46 goes back to the Tax Office they will find it odd as I am Unemployed, so I really don't want to do anything wrong but I don't know how to explain it to the Job Centre.
Regards,
Ian

I have just started a spot of Mystery shopping and one of the companies is asking for my UTR number ?, and I do not know why they want it, or indeed what they are going to do with it ?, do they need this to Tell the Inland Revenue that you are working for them ?, they said it was 'Just for there records'.0

I've merged 2 similar threads together.
Mystery shoppers are classed as self employment and you are liable to pay tax on them if you exceed the personal allowance.

Some mystery shopping companies pay you on a PAYE basis, and sort out all your tax for you.
OP - I would contact either the tax office or the job centre and see what they advise. Here I go again on my own....0
