If you can buy the bedstead on it's own then you would be better doing that, and they buying a decent mattress.

I would not advise buying this bed at all. I am in the process of complaining as the metal slats are approx 6 inches apart, this at the head of the bed causes the very thin, 'spring poking through' matress to fall through the gap. Hence your head is lower than your body. In addition to this because the matress is so very very thin, you can infact feel the slats!
You only get what you pay for,....... a very true statement

A 6" gap between slats is far too much, and could even damage open coil sprung mattresses.

Thanks for your reply. It did confirm what I felt was wrong.
I have infact just contacted argos who after evading the real problem have offered to change the bed for me. At first for the same one?????
Well obviously I refused. I now have to pick an alternative and come to some agreement with them. Problem is now, how do I know the slats are not going to be the same again, aghhhhh problems. I am off to look for a bed rating site.

If possible try to get a refund.

Were they metal or wooden slats?

Hi Tim, I did make a complaint this morning and was told at first they would replace the bed like for like. I obviously said 'no' and was then told to pick something else and I could pay the difference. Once again I refused. I was told I could not have my money back but to re-look through the website/catalogue and depending on the price difference we would come to a compromise! The bed has round metal slats.
I am wondering to save all the hard work of dismantleing the bed etc if I should ask them for a good quality mattress as am I right to presume a good mattress would be supported fine by these slats?

Whatever you do, don't keep the bed. Round bars 6" apart will just damage any mattress you put on it.
