Ecodriving Skills Can Save Money and the Planet

Maybe something of an exaggeration (the planet saving bit), but ecodriving skills can certainly save on fuel costs.
Sweden are the first European country to introduce ecodriving skills testing as part of their driving tests and other european countries are likely to follow suit.
It makes sense that some knowledge of how ones driving style, use of the brake, overly aggressive acceleration, poor maintenance etc. all affect fuel consumption and emissions should be tested. I'm just glad that I already have my driving licence.

The best fuel saving device is a trip computer in the car. Leave it on "MPG" all the time and it is surprising how you change your driving style just to make that figure creep up a bit.
We went out on Sunday for a drive, when we left home it said 40, when we got back it said 40.2, I was quite pleased with myself; but I couldn't understand why all the people behind me kept blowing their horns !!0 -

You might find that is reversed with Petrol heads, I usually get 23mpg, but know I am having fun if the trip computer reads 16mpg. Although I do service the car at regular intervals, check tyre pressures twice a week, and try not to make needless journeys.
I do try and make up for my polluting car in other ways though.;)0 -

Jeez! I'm worried when my MPG dips below 72! Then again I drive a Smart diesel which gives me 80-ish on a good day.
Buying the smart car is the best decision i've made in a long time. Even after paying back £135 a month loan plus the diesel to run it, i'm pocketing £80 a month over my previous car.0
