Ok I have been hanging around here for a while. So identify with all debt.I have hidden from debt for 7 years now,too scared to get my credit files, too scared when I contacted a debt agency and they contacted me 2 weeks later to do the "phone call" TO admit they had right person!!My 17 yearold daughter answered phone,so I pretended not to know them!I have battled on since then, with numerous debt collectors chasing me,I havehidden, ignored and been an idiot really.I want to get my credit files but terrified it will surfacemore debt collectors that I have chosen to ignore!what do you think?

Hi I,M SAD and welcome to mse/dfw. When you apply for your credit report using either the free experian trail or by post, your report will automatically be updated. This in reality means they will now update your report with your present address. However this wont mean that they will then send letters to all creditors notifying them of this update. But next time the creditors 'look' at your file (which they are legally allowed to do) they will see the changes and enevitably get in contact.
However... the info you will gain from your credit may be of more use to you than the situation you are in now. For instance it could show debts that are over 6 years old and no correspondence has been made in that time. This then means those debts are stature barred. Also it will show up any ccj's you may have in which case you can prioritize your debt repayment to clear these first. Also and most of all it will tell you the situation you are in... all your creditors and the amounts outstanding. You can then use all this information to start your debt free journey and seek free help.

If a creditor you haven't given a new address to has registered a GAIN (Gone Away Information Network) notice on your previous file, I believe they will automatically be notified if the old report is then linked to your new address.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I,M SAD: Please don't let that put you off sorting things out.
This site, this forum, and all the people here on DFW have helped people sort out even the worst problems.
There is all the help you could possibly need. You just need to ask.
