Buy in the last weeks before a registration change...this is a time when bonuses for garages are calculated. Get in touch with as many garages as you can and start playing one off against the other. If a garage say needs to sell 100 before a bonus and you are that 100th customer they could almost give it away!!

I bought a Ford KA in February which had been registered at the end of October 2004 but was actually brand new - only 5 miles on the clock. Ford obviously wanted to get their numbers up and so this particular dealership had lots up for grabs at £4995, which was £2000 less than the new price. I could have even had one with metallic paint, but didn't because I wanted dark blue! So I effectively got a brand new car with the balance of the 3 year warranty and took the attitude that depreciation was taken care of in the price saving. Granted it is just the basic model, but I wasn't bothered about electric windows and central locking, all I wanted was power steering and ABS which I got.

I found this deal by doing a search on the Auto Trader site.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

I bought my new Micra in April after looking in Auto Trader second hand cars and putting in a price I wanted to spend (up to £6000) It brought up a brand new Micra S (New cars Direct) - I telephoned them he agreed it was £6000 but I could only have a red one. I was looking at these in my local Nissan dealers and couldnt get one any cheaper than £7500, Said to pay £150 delivery or I could pick the car up from Wrexham - agreed for it to be delivered. Well made up when it all went according to plan and I got it £1500 cheaper.

Looked at a new Vauxhall in February, list price £12,500(What Car target price £11.5k), due to the dealers 'Company partnership' scheme or whatever it meant employees of my company could purchase at same price as vauxhall employees/dealership staff prices, so dropped price to £11k. Part Ex'd our old car for £5k, outstanding balance £6k. Took Vauxhalls finance scheme, a hefty 20% APR, but they pay a deposit allowance of £3.5k. So 20% APR for £2.5k, which was paid off within 30 days without paying a single payment, had about £100 final settlement payment on the finance arrangement. Final cost overall for a brand new£12.5k car, £8.5k(with a 2 year service interval and Full AA cover for 3 years)

Price of same car for a pre-reg or 2nd hand previous year model(without a choice of trim or colour that I wanted, £9k). If it works in your favour take a new car, if you can find a good deal on a 2nd hand or pre-reg, take that, simple really, all depends what you want and what you can get at the time

i think that the best way to get a new car is to lease one.

I know that you dont actually ever own it but you can get some great deals. You may have to have an open mind when chosing your car. unless you are lucky and the one you want is on offer like me.

The last few cars i have had have been leased. I have just got a BMW X3 2.0d SE. Cost £245 + Vat a month. The retail price of the car is nearly £30k with the extras.

i used https://www.contracthireandleasing.com. And found the deal was a lease company in Scotland. I then went to my local BMW Dealership and they said that they did personal Leases and they would price match. (they will normally price match as lease companies normally deliver the Car to your door)

So i got the Car i wanted, used a local dealership (In case of problems) and a very very good price.

Also if a new car is about to be released, manufactures will normally allocate a number of cars for short term leases, so that they will have some used ones in a couple of years time. And they want to get them on the road. Therefore this is why some new models are very cheap to lease.

How about the release of new cars? Fiat have a new car out in September - the Croma. Anyone have any experience of getting in first with a good deal?
