Disappointment with Payplan

Dear All
I have been with Payplan for almost 18 months now and have encountered no problems at all (in fact they have been excellent), until now.
I have a small (£2k) debt with AA credit card and in November they started putting interest back onto my account, along with a late payment charge, each month. According to the AA, they only allow you a year to "get back on your feet financially" - even when I pointed out they accepted an extra two months payments after this period was up before re-applying interest.
I have spoken/emailed my case manager at Payplan several times regarding this and am disappointed at their lack of support. They just keep saying don't worry, it will get referred to their solicitors then the interest will be frozen. This is easier said than done as I am now defaulting and keep getting letters and phone calls.
I had a solicitor friend write to the AA regarding the interest payments and Payplan have wished me luck in getting this sorted.
Anyone else had this from them?
Worried sick, yet again!

Hello FC,
When you’re on a DMP with any organisation there is no guarantee that the Interest and charges will be frozen, this really depends on the creditor if they choose to do it or not. Ask Payplan to send them a letter requesting they consider stopping the interest and charges again – all they can do is ask.
Generally when the debts get transferred to DCA’s they do stop the interest for you so even if AA don’t there maybe still a chance that it will soon.I am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. Read more information on the CCCS and what it does in the Debt Problems: What to do and where to get help article.
CCCS is a registered charity, and there is no charge whatsoever for any of the services we provide to our clients. Not in the case of Barclaycard, they passed my debt to Mercers in December and still add interest and charges of £147 per month. What's the point of paying them? I've stopped now tbh.'While wealth can be a magnet. Poverty is a form of repellent.'Nelson Mandela0 -
hi fairycake
I've had a similar thing this wk with halifax. Ive been with cccs for 13 months and halifax stopped interest and the debt has just started going down and on saturday out of the blue a letter. I phoned and same thing they are starting to add charges and interest back on. They have said that in 7 months time they will issue a default and then pass it on to a DCA. I have worked out in juyly 08 I will owe approx £1000 more than I did in jan 07!!! If they had told me this last yr i would have paid £1 a month andhad it passed straight to a Dca, what a waste of a year eh?!
It is really disheartening when you are trying to get things sorted, a big kick in the teeth but chin up, at least you are daling with your debts, even if it does feel like your going backwards. Your not alone

Were does custom and practise, and Equitable trading come in i.e if person 'A' is getting it why is person 'B' not getting it? Also if they have not initially put the 12 months proviso on then surely they cannot alter at whim if theyve accepted/aggreed reduced payments. I've been on a DMP since Sep 06 and Halifax is one of my creditors (well HBOS), i've had no letters from them.

I did once take Hillesden/DLC to task over this. I didn't really expect any results but to my surprise they refunded all the charges on to the client's account. Definitely worth a complaint.
Fairycake - have they ever issued a default notice?0 -
I wonder if it's because you uped the payments outside the normal 12 months review. We cancelled a policy and got a lump sum of 3K back, We wanted to pay this towards our our depts but was advised that creditors could see this as the norm (i.e. you must have been fibbing in the first place) also I was advised not to pay off our smaller depts as this could also be an indication of having more money? So we decorated!June 2005 = 48K of Debt

When it was upped (£60) in total that was too all the creditors so halifax had £20 extra each time we wrote with a recent statement of incomings nd outgoings and explained I had taken on 5 hours a week extra at my job and we were paying it all to the dmp. My husband is due a bonus in April approx £2k and the mood i'm in at the moment, halifax can stuff it and we are going on holiday. Was going to pay off 2 of the smaller debts but i'm not sure now you have said that!!!Proud to be dealing with my debts through cccs

I have had several letters saying that I am now £x in arrears but nothing else. My solicitor friend hasn't heard back so have decided to call them on Monday to see what is happening. So annoying as, like many other people, I am trying to pay all the money back and getting little help. Sometimes wonder what the point iS!0
