Next Directory Account

Hi there,

I ordered something from Next.co.uk last x'mas. During that time I knew nothing about the credit ref centren or anything financially related stuff (apart from cash).

So in order to complete my order; I duely completed the online application, and fill in all the details and blah blah. a week or two later I got my stuff and paid off using my credit card online.

Now more that 6 month later I recieved another letter from them saying that they have a new brochure coming out this sessions. When I look more carefully in the small print, there is a line

"""This season we will cahrge 3.5 pound for the brochure, but you will recieve a delivery credit (worth 3.5 pound) on your next order. If you do not wish to receive a copy, please call freephone 0800 731 4567 before 20 Aug 2005"""

I didnt realise that when I created an account with them had actually enticed me to more than just a one-off transaction :(.

I search thru their web there dont seems a way to cancel my account from their database (not I did not receive any card (both store or CC) from them. Will tried the free phone tomorrow.

Is this a known problem with Next or maybe just me being too naive?

thanks.

I have had this problem, and two others with Next Directory. First, although I returned all of the items from the order I made I was still charged a delivery fee - this would be fine if it was not for the terms and conditions in the back of the Next directory that said that if all items were returned the delivery fee would be refunded in full. When I queried on the phone, I was told that was not correct and there would be no refund. I then sent a query to the online help desk who said I needed to call. Am sick of dealing with call centre muppets so have not get got made enough to chase...

Third gripe was the fact that I placed an order for various items which were delivered over two days. However I was invoiced for these items in three separate months - meaning had to log on and pay three times. OK, so not a big gripe but it really makes me wonder how ineffecient their systems are.

Absolutely agree with you over the Directory problem you have...when I first ordered online from Next, I sent back my invoice with a cheque for the full amount and a request that they close the account. This seemed to work for me...[have since rejoined, hence the problems above!] Hope that helps!

When you fill out a card in store it says on there you agree to the £3.00 charge on your account for each new catalogue. There would have been something in the terms and conditions when you joined up online, the fee may have gone up this year hence the letter. You aren't forced into making future orders, but it's their way of getting you to pay for the catalogue.

If you no longer want an account with them let them know in plenty of time or you will end up being charged for the next catalogue.

As much as I like Next stuff, I didn't like the idea of paying for a catalogue that there was no guarantee I would order from, but thats my own opinion.
:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:

well they may argued that since you ordered the stuff over a period of two days, hence the bills were all over the place. Consider my case then I placed all my order at the same time, but I got billed 3 times as well. And the last bill came 3 or 4 month later after I have moved, andI was actually charged an interest on it, since I was late in clear it off as I dont know I still owe them money.

That's why I am taking extra precaution with anything they send to me (usually all these marketing letter will go straight to bin for me). Just dont want to be caught up again.

Hence Next.co.uk is definitely a no no for me.

Must find a way to get them delete my detail form their database.

Wish I had knew about this then. I thought the catalogue is only a one-off time when you sign up. What a mistake I made.

No, everything was ordered on the same day/order, it was just delivered over two...
