3 year Old Debt

Hi guys...really hoping that you can help me with a fairly urgent issue.

We received a letter over the weekend from a debt recovery company asking for £75 which relates to a parking ticket in 2005. Apparantly they have been handed the 'outstanding' debts from another company that has gone into administration recently, and this amount is shown as outstanding.

I'm convinced that we paid the debt, as any parking tickets would always have been paid immediately. However, we have since changed bank accounts, and our previous bank can find no cheques being cashed around the time they state.

Since the issue relates to a debt 3 years ago...is there anything we can do to fight the action, despite not being able to prove that with good intention we sent a cheque off?

Help!!!

TBH if they can prove that you owe the money, and you cannot prove that you paid it, it sounds like you need to pay the fine.

As the debt is only three years ago, it is not barred by statute.
    Gone ... or have I?
