Anyone got info on Air Source Heat Pumps

Has anyone got any info on air source heat pumps.

Especially with regards to how they compare to solar panels for hot water.

Only ask as solar panels seem to cost £4K to install and a air source heat pump around £1K

There are some threads on the Utilities board including one very informative thread from someone who has installed an ASHP.Solar HW at £4K is a joke! a bad joke!ASHPs are noisy but efficient for heating rooms - but to install one for HW you will be talking a lot more than £1K I suspect.

In the latest Travis Perkins catologue they have quite a few green technology stuff including the following Activair Air Source Heat Pumps

3KW £890
5KW £1017
12KW £2393

Activair seem tosay that the 3 KW & 5 KW are for hot water only and the 12 KW is for both.

Just wondering if their worthwhile

I propably prefer the look of these to solar panels as i don't like the idea of maintaining the solar panels (climbing on roof etc)
