tax refund how much to expect

i started a new job as a teacher in september 07. i have had lots of problems with my tax as i did some temporary contract work in the summer, the company i worked for do not provide a p45 and so i have been on emergency tax all year and have only just got my new tax code. just wondering if anyone could help me work out how much money i should be expecting to get back. i have to admit the whole thing kind of goes over my head. i am a single person, i pay into a pension and obviously pay national insurance. this year i have earnt 9422 from teaching and a further 2000 from the temp work. all of this has been charged at bace rate tax. any idea how much i should be expecting back? thanks a lot!

    £9422 + £2000 = £11422 - £5225 tax free 07/08

    = £6197 taxable income - £2230 @ 10% = £223

    = £3967 @ 22% = £872.74

    £223 + £872.74 = £1095.74 tax due

This does not take into consideration any allowances you may be able to claim for professional subscriptions etc

Pam's calculation shows how to work out your tax but you will need to add into the total earning of 11,422 your expected earnings for Feb and March to get a total for this tax year and then do the calculation.
